The Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois makes grants to organizations that provide civil legal aid to low-income individuals and families in Illinois.

To be eligible to apply for a grant, an organization must:

  • Have not-for-profit status under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code;

  • Provide legal assistance to individual clients and families in civil matters;

  • Serve Illinois residents who have no resources to obtain private counsel, which is generally defined as having incomes below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines;

  • Employ at least two full-time attorneys (or two full-time equivalents) who are licensed to practice in Illinois to provide and/or supervise the organization's legal work. [With some exceptions. See full guidelines for details.]
In addition, the legal services supported by the Lawyers Trust Fund myst be provided without charge to the client.
